Well, my system is back and (knock wood) OK. The problem is I have to practically rebuild everything from the ground up. Resetting passwords, rebuilding bookmarks--all totally gone!, and catching up with nearly 100 e-mails. I guess it's a good way to clean stuff out. If I don't remember I had it in my bookmarks, I guess I can afford to lose it. ;-) My first priority is to get to the chapters that need beta work which I hope to have ready to return by Sunday. I'll do my best-can't promise. I won't post any spoilers, but I saw Order of the Phoenix tonight. That cost me another night of rebuilding, but worth it!

So far no good news with the virus/trojan horse problem. My rig is with it's 3rd possible fixer and nothing yet. I'm at my parents' house this morning so I thought I'd update those who may have an interest. I'll get back to any author whose work is 'on hold' ASAP. I do apologize for the delay. While I'm offline, I'm plotting unspeakable torture to the 'person' who wrote the godforsaken thing that infected my computer--should our paths ever cross.

I copied this from grandma_kate's journal and I could not agree more. The last 2+ years as a beta reader and particularly the last 13 months as an LJ user have brought me into contact (some long term; some short) with some of the most intelligent, kind, funny and generous people I ever could have hoped to meet. It has enriched my life beyond telling.

I just found out last night that Driving Lessons will be released on DVD in the US on July 3. I've had it on my Blockbuster.com waiting list for ages with no release date listed. I happened to glance at the list last night and whooped for joy! One more thing to look forward to in July. Oh my giddy aunt!!!!!!! I tried to find a mood icon for 'anticipatory' or 'expectant' but had to settle for plain ol' 'happy'.

What a HP Week!

I know I'm very late to this party and probably the only one in this fandom not to have already posted something about the release date and the Dan pics. I'm very surprised that the book is coming out so 'soon'--not that we haven't been waiting for ages already. It's just that all that I've read in the last few months gave the impression that Rowling wasn't burning up the pencils in an effort to get this finished. I can see all the reasoning behind releasing it during the summer holidays but I guess the release of the film and the book in the same month has me surprised. I'm running the gamut of emotions about the release of #7, from totally ecstatic to just a little sad that canon will be over. And then the Dan/Equus pics. Whew! I think it can be safely said that he has left Harry behind. I hope he gets some good press about it once it opens and not the drivel currently going around. I expect full reports from all you lucky devils who will actually go to London to see the play.

Time to update my page even though there's not much to say. Got through the holidays and the first two weeks of January and things are settling down nicely. Lots to beta read which is nice. Still a few authors yet to hear from in '07 tho. Belated Happy New Year, All!

At one minute to 7 this morning (Eastern Standard Time in the US) I got the best Christmas present yet--A telephone call from the best cyberbuddy I know, cyclonejuliet! I knew it was coming and I was awake every hour during the night waiting for it and it was worth every minute of lost sleep, believe me. I was on the ceiling for hours afterwards. Merry Christmas, love and best wishes for 2007, Mel, to you and your family. You're the best!

The Weekend At Last!

It's been so long since I posted that I think LJ thinks I've skipped town. There hasn't been much to talk about lately and the new job has me so exhausted that by the time I get home, I'm toast. I'm enjoying it, but learning a new job while teaching your old one to someone else takes a toll. Lots to beta, too--that's the good part! Just want to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans this week, and a general 'Hello' to everyone else. I have Wednesday and Thursday off but have to work on Friday. Since many businesses have Friday off as well there won't be a lot of calls coming in and it would be pretty foolish to try to make any outgoing. So, that will be like a day off as well--except for the early rise and make-up! I guess you can't have it all. Bye Bye!

Well, since I've just upgraded to First Class on here, I'm going to try to post a picture (or two) of the finished quilt rack. In order to get the whole thing in the shot, I had to stand at a distance so it's not as clear as I might have hoped. On the shelf above are my HP books and CDs, a box of HP playing cards I got from my grandkids and a boxed set of Quidditch Through the Ages and Magical Creatures. The squares above the quilt are the Hogwarts and House mascots. It came out pretty well, if I do say so myself. ;-) It's been nearly a month and I still can't believe my luck!

Believe it or not I WON THE HP QUILT!!!!!!!!!! I was told that the call probably wouldn't be made until sometime Monday but just about 3:55 on Sunday afternoon the phone rang and I heard my husband say "You're kidding! Hey Ger! You won the quilt!!" The lady on the other end asked about making arrangements to pick it up and I asked if I could come down then and there. She seemed a little hesitant since by 4PM these people are packing and ready to get the heck outta Dodge! I told her I'd be there in seven minutes and I think I made it!! Unfortunately, I just realized that since I don't have a Paid Account on LJ, I can't post pictures. So, I'll send photos in emails to those whose addresses I have. Anybody else who's interested can send me their email address to Gerryg313@cox.net and I'll send the photos as attachments. It's pretty good size--I laid it out on my queen size bed and it just covers the whole surface. There's a pillow that came with it and I tried to get a close-up of Harry and his HUGE GREEN eyes!! You guys are the best!! The next time I need Good Vibes, I'm calling on you all. You rock!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You guys are better than Felix Felicis!

I just returned from a craft fair in my town where I came across the most fabulous hand made Harry Potter quilt that the Senior Citizens group was raffleing off. It was made by a local artisan. I bought five tickets ( I may go back and get some more) and my daughter bought five (if she wins I know what I'm getting for Christmas!) Now I need to call on all you Harry Potter fiends to send your good vibes my way. The drawing is around 3 PM on Sunday, so you've got less than 24 hours to help me out! Please! Please Please! If I win, I'll post a picture of it. It's fabulous!!

Is Rowling deliberately baiting the press?

I'm curious to see how others feel about this latest round of 'news' concerning Rowling possibly killing Harry off in Book 7. First, does anyone in this community think she really will? Also, does it seem just a bit self-serving of her to throw out such tidbits knowing the press and many fans will pounce on it like a pack of howling dogs. Does she really think she needs the publicity? Also, from my point of view, she's painting herself into a corner since no matter which way she goes now, she'll be accused of pandering to her fans. I just don't see what's (or who's) to be served by these death teasers. And as far as her argument that she's protecting the character from other authors after her death. Please, build a bridge and get over yourself!

Any thoughts?

Off to prepare for my very tiny, very weather-threatened July 4th picnic. They're promising/threatening thunder storms of epic proportions this afternoon which I normally enjoy--just not when I'm hosting or attending an outdoor event. So far the weather this summer has sucked pond water!

Everybody's pretty quiet

Everybody must be super busy the last week or so. Nobody on my friend list (except Christina) posting, including me. It was a crazy week and crazier weekend. My daughter has moved to her own apartment with her two messy, smelly chinchillas (God! are rodents messy!) and we're stripping that room to the bare walls and redecorating. The last few years everytime I've had the urge to redecorate I've had a little lie down with a cognac and a cold compress and it usually passed. Not this time! And the best part is, a professional is coming in to hang the wallpaper. We're stripping the old stuff off and he's doing the rest of the prep and hanging. Woohoo!

Speaking of Christina, have you listened to mudblood428's audio recording of one of Christina's stories? I'm a little short on details at the moment, but if you missed it go to Christina's last post and follow the link. It's wonderful!

Day 3 of a Nice Long Weekend

I finally saw The da Vinci Code on Saturday and I liked it. I like Tom Hanks but I was a little unsure about him in this role. I thought he was OK. Ian McKellan was a tad reserved in relation to the Teabing in the book. They could have blown the scene at Biggin Hill out of the water, but, alas, no.They played it straight. Why they stayed nearly identical to the book for 3/4 of the trip and then plunged off the track for the last 1/4 is anybody's guess. But then, don't they always? As usual in 99.9% of cases, the book was better.

Enjoying the first of the long summer weekends. Went to a nice picnic yesterday and met some of Hubby's new work friends. I wish I had new work friends.
